Children & Families First’s Head Start/Early Head Start program is a comprehensive child development program at NO COST to qualified families. The income limit is based on family size and household annual income in accordance with 2024 poverty guidelines.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Early Head Start: 6 weeks – 2 years of age (on or after August 31)

Head Start: Priority is given to children 4 years of age on or before August 31st. There are limited slots available for children who will be 3 years of age on or before August 31.

CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

We recognize your child as an individual who has unique strengths, limitations, and needs, and our Head Start/Early Head Start program is tailored to meet the needs of all children who qualify for our program.

A percentage of our slots are reserved for children with special needs.

CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

Children & Families First serves children with diagnosed disabilities in developmentally appropriate classrooms. Disabilities served include, but are not limited to: 

  • Autism
  • Developmental delay
  • Speech or language impairment
  • Hearing impairment
  • Visual impairment
  • Orthopedic impairment

We provide individualized services according to the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Screenings and assessments are conducted to help identify children with special needs.

DOCUMENTATION FOR VERIFICATION

After your online application is received, a member of our staff will contact you to retrieve the following documentation:

  • Verification of total family income for the past 12 months
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Child’s current physical exam (with current immunizations)
  • Dental exam, and
  • Medicaid card, if applicable
CHILD ACCEPTANCE

Once you have spoken to our Head Start Staff and submitted all required documentation, we will notify you when child is accepted into the program.

Once accepted, you have the option to accept or decline placement.

Please note: The same application is used for Head Start and Early Head Start. However, these are separately funded programs. You must reapply when your child moves up from Early Head Start to Head Start.
