Catering for Kids Helps Friendly Avenue Christian Academy "SHAPE NC"

Last October the Blue Cross, Blue Shield Foundation and the North Carolina Partnership for Children (Smart Start) began a three year, 3.3 million dollar partnership to focus on childhood obesity from birth to age five. Friendly Avenue Christian Academy (FACA) was selected to represent Guilford County for the Shape NC program.

In addition or providing nutritious meals for our own 13 child development centers, our Catering for Kids (CFK) program provides lunches to FACA. While the CFK menu already meets high nutrition standards, the staff worked with FACA to meet the nutrition best practices outlined in the Shape NC objectives. The partnership has been a success, as conveyed in the following letter from FACA director, Sandy Johnson.

"I just wanted to let you know how pleased and excited I am with the modifications you and Ms. Lucy have made to the menu. You and your staff have far exceeded my expectations in this short time frame! I am so grateful for your spirit of cooperation and interest in children’s health. I’m also very grateful for your willingness to hear our suggestions and share our goals. I have been singing your praises for what you have been doing to affect children across Guilford County. On behalf of the families here at FACP and our staff, we want to thank you!  Every step we take gets us that much closer to a healthy future for these children!"
