Regional Child Care R and R | Criminal History Checks
Criminal History Checks Print E-mail

All Child Care Providers are required to obtain a Criminal Background Check as mandated by the North Carolina Division of Child Development (DCD).

North Carolina Law States:

Effective January 1, 1996, it became law that the Department of Human Resources ensure that the criminal history of all child care providers is checked and that a determination is made of all providers' fitness to have the responsibility for the safety and well-being of children based on that criminal history.

Providers and applicants must submit a county and State history if they have lived in North Carolina continuously for the previous five years. All others shall have their county, State, and national criminal histories checked.

The DCD has the right to prohibit a child care provider from providing care if it determines that the provider is unfit to have such responsibility. This is in accordance with General Statute 110-90.1.
